Summer Retreats with Nerissa 2023
Adirondack and Summer Writing Camp, and Morning Seeding & Tending
Dearest Dears,
We’re about to go into the final few weeks of our wonderful Weekly Workshops, and while I love summer’s slower pace, I always miss my regular writing groups. The good news is we have two retreats scheduled––Adirondacks June 23-25, and Summer Writing Camp July 10-14. Also, Morning Seeding & Tending WILL continue throughout the summer. More on this below, and reminder that next week, the last week of the month, is free for those who want to try it out.
Six Reasons Why I Love My Own Retreats
Get to hear what’s new with all of you in a relaxed environment, where we’re sharing meals, going for walks, taking our time.
Listen to your writing as it evolves over a weekend or a week. It’s always amazing to me to see how the feedback of the other writers enriches each individual.
I get to experiment with new, healthy recipes and sometimes there are leftovers.
There’s always someone new who’s never had Tom’s Crack Brownies.
We end up writing A LOT!
This year, the magnificent, brilliant, and always kind Elaine Apthorp is available as a manuscript mentor for those who want some in-depth editorial assistance.
We’re continuing our tradition of meeting both in person and hybrid at the Summer Writing Camp. You can come for the full five days, or just for one day, or anything in between.

ADIRONDACK RETREAT
Click here for more info. This retreat is in-person only. An even cozier retreat. Please join Nerissa Nields and Elaine Apthorp in the stunning Adirondacks of upstate NY for a weekend of writing, optional hiking, good food and great people. We'll kick things off on Friday evening at 5:30pm with a scrumptious dinner at the house, then dive into our writing journey, wherever it takes you. With plenty of laughter, camaraderie, and maybe even some singing (if the spirit moves), we'll craft and share our stories until 8:30pm. On Saturday and Sunday, we'll gather at 9am for coffee, tea and prompts. Elaine is available as a manuscript mentor for those who want some in-depth editorial assistance. A delicious midday meal will keep us fueled for more writing and group sharing until 5pm. Of course, at any time, you can play hooky and go for a quick (30 minute) hike up Baxter Mountain, or longer (2 hour) hike up Hurricane.
The spacious family house is situated in the heart of the High Peaks and features stunning views of Hurricane Mountain through ginormous windows. There's even a screened porch and a deck to soak in the fresh mountain air. And for you songwriters out there, we've got private rooms just for you.
Morning Seeding & Tending—Free Next Week!
My daily Morning Seeding & Tending group has been instrumental to my daily productivity, overall joy, and the constant sentiment that I am not alone in this crazy life of trying to wrestle words onto a page.
Every weekday at 10am sharp, a group of us gather to write for an hour on Zoom. Some days it’s me and one other brave soul. More often, there are four or more of us. We blink at each other, mutter some greetings, sometimes, and then I read a prompt—a secular prayer, usually (AKA a poem) and then I send it to the group via email and we set our intentions for the day in the chat.
What do we write? Whatever we like! Some days I work on a novel, attempt to get my “first draft” quotient in for the day of 1000 words. Some days I edit, some days I submit to literary journals or work on a query letter, some days I write something to you. I always know I have an hour in the morning to get SOME writing done.
Some folks come almost every day. Some just once a week. The low cost of the group ($25 a month via subscription to this newsletter, AND I am running a special for 20% off FOREVER, see below) means that no one feels like they’re not getting their money’s worth. Writing with a group of others is powerful, just like meditating in a group always felt more bolstering to me than meditating on my own. I know there are others out there aligning themselves in the same way I am.
All you have to do to join the group is subscribe to this newsletter. Once a month, you’ll be charge that $25 fee, although for the entire summer, the cost is 20% off—or $20 per month. This offer good through August 31.
You’ll continue to get this newsletter, but additionally you will get a daily email for subscribers only with the day’s prompt.
When does the month start? Whenever you want it to! How about now? What will you do with your hour a day?
Try it to see if you like it! Come for free the last week in May/beginning of June (May 29-June 2, my birthday!)
